Chesterfield are hoping to wrap up a deal for Jordan Slew in the next 24 hours.

The 23-year-old striker is currently a free agent after being released by Cambridge United following a short term deal last summer. He was once seen as a hot prospect after he made a £1.1million move to Blackburn Rovers from Sheffield United but despite a number of loan spells, he never showed that potential.

Now though Slew looks like he will get another chance to show why he once had such a big repuation with him set to sign a contract with Chesterfield within a day.

And according to Slew’s new manager Danny Wilson, he won’t be the only one signing in the next few days. Wilson is eager to add new faces to make sure the Spireites don’t drop back into League 2 and he expects a a few new players to sign in the next week.

Talking ahead of Slew signing, Wilson told the Sheffield Star: “I would like to change it, we need a fresh spark in there.

“We’re hoping Jordan will do a short term contract between now and the end of the season.”

“We’re hoping that will get done today, but we’re not 100 per cent.”

“I’m hoping we can bring a couple in before the game, if not before the Saturday game.”

“But again, it’s about availability.”
