Fulham have signed Chris Baird on loan from Derby County until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old was only signed by the Rams last summer but despite the fact he was named as club captain, he was never able to break into the first team on a regular basis. And with Baird keen to make sure he gets into the Northern Ireland squad for Euro 2016 this summer, he has moved on loan to Fulham for the rest of the season.
Baird is very familiar with the Cottagers having made over 150 appearances for them over six year period which came to an end in 2013. Fulham are in a very different position now compared to when Baird last played for them and his main aim will be to shore up a defence which has been poor all season and has plunged them towards the wrong end of the Championship table.
Following his signing, Baird told the club website: “When the opportunity arose I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to come and be part of this again.”
“I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans again. They were fantastic to me over the six years that I was here previously.”
