Southend United has announced the signing of Polish defender Piotr Malarczyk from Championship side Ipswich Town on an emergency loan until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old defender joined Ipswich Town in August of 2015, making his debut the next against Brighton & Hove Albion, where his side lost at home 2-3. Malarczyk has made only six appearances for the side this season. The Polish defender is favoured at the centre back, where he supports current first team defenders, Adam Barrett and Adam Thompson.
Southend United’s manager Phil Brown was ecstatic about the new signing.
If you want a defender with the right mentality, the right attitude you won’t go far wrong from Piotr. He brings that steely mentality to the side. He’s a strong character who’s vocal and has got a presence.
Southend currently sits in ninth in Sky Bet League One. The side is only three points away from a playoff spot. With the season coming down to the final matches, Southend will hope their new signing Malarczyk will give them that push they need to seek promotion.
